Love in a Torn Land
I am in the midst of reading 'Love in a Torn Land' by Joanna Al Askari as told to Jean Sasson.
I bought the book, thinking I would keep it to read during my vacation/flight to my vacation.
Its a long 24 hour flight with transit included for me to reach JAR in late May.
However, I decided to take a peek just to check it out to see if it would be a good read.
I found that I could hardly put it down.
It even goes into my brief case to work though I dont know if I could ever find the time to read it during my breaks.
I am now on Chapter fifteen.
I have grown up together with the heroine. She is now about to marry the guy she loves but he is a Kurd freedom fighter in Saddam's Iraq.
I have cried along with her during the times that she felt her love was unrequited.
I am living her life thru this book.
Needless to say I love this book.
I have been an avid reader since I was a kid.
Its really true when they say that reading a good book allows u to live several lives.
I believe I shall prolly finish reading this book long before my vacation is to begin.
Its ok.
An excuse to go buy yet another book.
Thank goodness the Inland Revenue here allows tax deductions for purchasing books!

dear june..it sounds like an incredible story.
and it is true!..how nice!
i googled it and found many good book reviews on it.
apparently the author writes only true stories, so if you finish that book, maybe you will be able to find another book by Joanna Al Askari.
it is great that you can get lost in a book. THAT is a dying art these days!
wow! that sure is a long flight that you will be taking but i guess the time will go fast and i will be praying that the lord gives you a safe trip and that you will enjoy every moment that you share with jar and his family.
it is march 13th now and i guess you HAVE finished that good book junie!!
god bless..love terry
Yes, I have completed the book. I went to Kunokuniya, a large book store near the Petronas Towers's shopping mall known as KLCC to look for more books by Joanna Al Askari but there were none listed in the computer.
However, there are books by Jean Sasson the lady who helped Joanna put to paper what happened to her.
I bought one of those books as well as another by William Leith.
I just have to find the time to read.
Reading is something I enjoy doing even as a child but as I grew up and got involved with living, reading was 'pushed aside' to vacation times. I have now resolved to make time even during non vacation times and to allow my mind to be carried away to different places and experiences by the written word of others.
How are things with u Terry?
I shall look forwards to reading more of ur Ruby Tuesdays.
June
things are going ok june.
that is funny that you are looking forward to reading my ruby tuesday posts because you know what?
yesterday, i started at the very beginning of your blog and am reading each post!
you are such an interesting writer and sometimes your humour makes me chuckle!
ha!!..the first comment that you got ..that was way too funny what you found out!
a dating game!!...ha!
you don't need that, eh?
you sure are one wise girl!
i have also just read your profile and you have something wrong in there. it seems to me that you don't even read trashy books let alone trashy ones on your vacation!
when i was younger, i used to read at least one book a day..i loved reading.
it seems though, since i have been computing..there just isn't left a whole lot of time!
well, looking forward to hearing from you again, in between the chapters of your books...love terry
Hehehe Terry.
Once JAR asked me about a book I was reading on a vacation.
I answered "Trashy book". He too laughed.
A trashy book by my definition is a totally fictional book which does not do much to educate you or even make you think. There are lots of books like that especially those that focus on romance.
I do read them when I do not want to even think....hence during my vacation times.
Oh oh u are reading my blog right from the start?! U'll find that there'll be a phase where I vent out some anger cos u already know by now that this is part of the purpose of me having a blog. I hope my ugly side does not turn u away too much!
Even tho work takes my focus much of the week days, I try to set aside my weekends just for family. Last weekend I drove Mom to my eldest sis's house and we spent most of Saturday with her, my bro in law and their son and daughter who both happened to be free. We had a good time.
Both during the week and the weekends I try to slot in time (very short times of course) for chats with JAR over the phone, internet or emails.
So far its working out.
As I get older I find that I spend less times with friends but mainly focus on family.
How about u Terry?
Time to go back to work cos lunch hour is about over.
More laters.
June
